(the Chicone Cabinetmaker's Blog)
I am interested in the development of regional furniture forms and the unique style signature of historic cabinetmakers. Whenever possible I work with Sustainably harvested local timber. I believe that the biography of every piece is tied to a place, the forest the tree came from, the mill it was processed in, the hands that created its form.
My boutique cabinet shop is nestled in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. I invite you to follow along with us on our blog as we share our latest projects. Welcome to our shop.
The Rising Sun chair is one of the most iconic furniture pieces from Revolutionary America. The very seat Geroge Washington sat in as he signed the Constitution. Follow along as we craft a reproduction of this historic piece.
In fall 2012, we were commissioned by the University of Pennsylvania to craft a historically accurate reproduction of Benjamin Franklin’s library armchair. The original chair is currently on display in the King’s College Room, University Archives and Columbiana Library, at Columbia University in New York City. And when we say on display we mean tucked in the corner next to the copy machine.
Have you ever heard of apple boxes—no, I am not talking about slick modern packaging for your iPhone. Apple boxes are a standard piece of film and photography equipment. They are used as seats, props, and tables; they make actors taller, cameras steadier, and offer a place to rest weary bones during a long shoot.
